The Housemaid (2025) — Pre-Release Review / Overview
Millie, played by Sydney Sweeney, in the upcoming film The Housemaid, just released its first trailer, is a woman with a troubled past who takes a job as a live-in housemaid for the affluent Winchester family.
The Winchesters — Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) — present a seemingly perfect family, but are hiding dangerous secrets
As Millie settles into the household, she begins to suspect that things are not as they seem: locked rooms, odd behavior, hidden truths, and so on. The promotional trailer suggests tension built around power dynamics, deception, and psychological manipulation.
A major hook is that the family’s secrets may be worse than Millie’s past.
Director: Paul Feig, known for comedies and thrillers, is trying something new here.
Release Date: Scheduled for December 19, 2025, in theaters in the U.S.
Pre-Release Verdict:
Even before release, The Housemaid looks promising. With strong leads, a popular source novel, and a director willing to push into darker territory, it seems like it could deliver on tension, secrets, and some chilling twists. If done well, it should appeal to both fans of the book and of psychological thrillers in film.
Tentative Rating (pre-release): 3.5/5 — depending on how well the film balances the mystery, the reveals, and the characters’ internal conflicts.
